Jefferies Rolls Out Wildcatters ETF

Jefferies launched the new Jefferies | TR/J CRB Wildcatters Exploration & Production Equity ETF (NYSEArca: WCAT) on Jan. 20. The fund is an equity-based commodities fund tracking the Thomson Reuters/Jefferies CRB Wildcatters Energy E&P Equity Index, a modified cap-weighted, float-adjusted, rules-based benchmark tracking oil and gas explorers and producers based in the U.S. and Canada. The index is rebalanced quarterly. Each company in the index must have a market cap between $200 million and $2 billion, making this a fund consisting primarily of small- to mid-cap firms. As of Dec. 31, most of the companies in the index (67.7 percent) were domiciled in the U.S., with the rest (32.3 percent) in Canada; two-thirds are natural gas companies.

WCAT carries an expense ratio of 0.65 percent.

ProShares Launches Treasurys Funds

ProShares launched two new ETFs on Jan. 21 that give investors leveraged exposure to the U.S. Treasury market. The ProShares Ultra 20+ Year Treasury (NYSEArca: UBT) and ProShares Ultra 7-10 Year Treasury (NYSEArca: UST) are designed to deliver 200 percent of the daily return of their respective indexes. Both charge expense ratios of 0.95 percent.

PowerShares Files For Small-Cap Sector ETFs

PowerShares has taken steps to launch an extensive lineup of small-cap sector ETFs. Each sector-specific benchmark is a subset of the S&P SmallCap 600 Index, which is a float-adjusted, market-capitalization-weighted index reflecting the U.S. small-cap market. The U.S. companies included in the portfolio have a capitalization of anywhere from $250 million to $1.2 billion, and have at least 50 percent of their stocks in the hands of public investors.
